2nd National MEChA Encuentro
MEChA at San Diego State University and at University of California San Diego is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual National Encuentro, to be held from April 20-22, 2012 in San Diego, CA.
MEChA de SDSU's goal for our National Encuntro is to come together with MEChA chapters and MEChistAs from all over the nation and expose them to our philosophies and ideologies. The theme of this the National Encuentro is "Nepantler@s: Un Mundo Donde Quepan Muchos Mundos." With the National Encuentro, we hope to invoke a desire for MEChA as a national organization to further become politically conscious through community involvement and pride in who they are and where they come from. With Zapatismo as our main focus, we hope to promote the ideals and philosophies adopted by the Zapatista Communities.
Although this may be the Second National Encuentro, it is part of a series of National Encuentros to come. As we create a new political space to encounter ourselves, develop new forms and methods to dialogue, and collectively articulate new political projects in hopes to define our autonomy. Let this Encuentro not only serve as a bridge amongst Mechistas, but those collectively struggling and sacrificing to survive in various collectives, organizations, groups, talking circles of different worlds. The bridge we made to those various collective, organizations, groups, and talking circles for this Encuentro do not rely on relaying a single ideology, organizational affiliation, or one fixed identity. Rather, making the efforts for work, land, housing, food, health care, education, independence, freedom, democracy, justice and peace by those in San Diego available as way to (re)learn, share, organize movements to articulate responses in all our respective spaces.
MEChA'Âs Annual National Encuentro is in its 2nd year and we strongly advocate consciousness and comunidad. We are especially proud of the fact that our organization has been a training ground for many of today's Chican@ community leaders.
