Alta Califas Sur MEChA Region

Welcome

"In the Past, the Structure of M.E.Ch.A. allowed any individual wanting to organize a chapter on any particular campus the opportunity to do so. This could occur without prior knowledge of the history of M.E.Ch.A.. Thus, a vast number of M.E.Ch.A. chapters were created with dissimilar and contradictory objectives, as well as conflicting philosophies.
Recognizing the ineffectiveness of this previous M.E.Ch.A. organizational structure and the philosophical polarity that is allocated, the following structure will make every Mechista accountable to its chapter, every Chapter accountable to it's Chapter, every Central Accountable to it's Regional, and every Regional accountable to statewide.
Thus, believing that Chicano students of California must take it upon themselves the responsibilities to promote and encourage nuestra Gente to pursue higher education, graduate, and promote Chicanismo within the community. As well as politicize our Raza and continue the struggle for self-determination of the Chicano people and the liberation of Aztlán. We hereby establish this constitution."-MEChA de ACS Constitution

SAVE ETHNIC STUDIES CAMPAIGN

mecha logo.jpg
To: All Active Chapters in Alta Califas Sur
From: Alta Califas Sur Region
Re: œSave Ethnic Studies! Campaign

The following letter is to address the current campaign that our region has decided to take part of as of June 10, 2012. After the passage of SB 1070 and HR 2281 in Arizona, ethnic studies, especially Mexican-American Studies, were completely banned from the school curriculum at Tucson Unified School District. These programs were aiding in the growth and development of our raza in becoming better individuals in society as well as fostering leadership development. As a result many campus have taken action towards this issue. However, after the regional meeting at UCLA, we have decided to combine efforts and push for a regional campaign to Save Ethnic Studies.
The campaign consist of a book drive, which will involve donating books to the youth and teachers in Arizona to continue Raza Studies in the community centers and other spaces provided by the community to continue empowerment of our raza. The books that we encourage you all to donate are all raza studies textbooks, novelas, research, etc. A list will be attached to this letter for your chapter'™s reference. We are asking every chapter to donate a minimum of 10 books per regional meeting, from July to September 2012; this gives a grand total of 30 books per chapter. How ever if your Chapter wishes to donate more at any time, we have two collection centers, one at UCLA, and the second one at CSUN.
The second part of the campaign consist of a caravan to Arizona which is projected to take place during the first National liaison meeting at Tucson Arizona in the weekend of September 14-16, 2012. The NMCCs and the Regional General Body are finalizing logistics regarding the caravan. Furthermore, if you wish to join us and help with the planning process please fell free to contact Luis Aviles or Blanca Samano. In the next regional meeting we will be finalizing as well as assigning tasks regarding the caravan, so please come and Join us July 29th at California State University, Northridge.
We are hoping that you all can join us in this major effort, being the first one for our region takes upon this year. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us via email at mechadeacs@gmail.com for any questions.
